- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking dish with butter or cooking spray.
- Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute. Gradually stir in milk and heavy cream, then whisk in the cheddar until melted and smooth. Season with salt and pepper.
- Layer half of the sliced potatoes in the baking dish, pour half the cheese sauce over them. Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese sauce.
- Sprinkle remaining cheddar cheese on top, cover with foil, and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove foil and bake for another 15-20 minutes until bubbly and golden.
