Preparation
- Grease the slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray or a light layer of butter. Preheat the crockpot on HIGH for about 15 minutes.
- Pour the apple pie filling into the crockpot and add diced apple, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon. Stir gently to combine.
- Drizzle salted caramel sauce over the apple mixture, ensuring it is evenly distributed.
- Sprinkle dry yellow cake mix evenly over the apple and caramel layers without stirring.
- Lay thin slices of unsalted butter on top. If using, sprinkle chopped nuts on top.
- Place a tea towel under the lid before covering to prevent condensation. Cook on HIGH for 2 to 2.5 hours or LOW for 3.5 to 4.5 hours until bubbly and set.
