  • 3 tablespoons Cajun seasoning or a homemade blend with paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne
  • 2 tablespoons honey can substitute with maple syrup
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter vegan butter is a great alternative
For the Gouda Grits
  • 1 cup smoked gouda cheese or regular gouda or cheddar
  • 1 cup stone-ground grits instant grits are not recommended
  • 4 cups water for cooking the grits
  • ½ cup milk or cream, consider plant-based for lactose-free

Method
 

Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Rinse 1 pound of medium shrimp under cold water and pat dry. Sprinkle Cajun seasoning over shrimp and let marinate for at least 10 minutes.
  2. Melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter in a large skillet over medium heat. Add 2 tablespoons of honey and whisk to combine. Let bubble for about 1 minute.
  3. Add marinated shrimp to the skillet in a single layer. Cook for 2-3 minutes on one side, then flip and cook for another 2-3 minutes until cooked and firm.
  4. In a separate saucepan, bring 4 cups of water to a boil. Whisk in 1 cup of stone-ground grits. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 20-25 minutes, stirring frequently.
  5. Stir in 1 cup of smoked gouda cheese and ½ cup of milk or cream into the grits. Mix until smooth and season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Serve creamy gouda grits topped with Honey Butter Cajun Shrimp and garnish with chopped parsley or green onions.
